Have you ever heard the saying "disco is dead"? Well, if you have it is a big fat lie. Disco has survived the eighties and evolved through the nineties. Now disco is everywhere in the new millennium.

Yes, disco is alive and well in the music of today. Today's techno music embodies the beat, fashion, lyrics, and infectiousness of disco music. The format between disco and techno are not that far apart. The beat is similar in repetitions and progressions.

Though some disco songs were slow, most of the songs had a fast beat. It is the same with techno music. There are some slow songs in techno, but most have a minimum of 32 beats per minute. Some techno songs have beats as high as 84 beats per minute. The variance between the beats can make songs really intense. Another way that the two music styles influence their listeners is through fashion.

Disco had a big influence on fashion in the seventies. Some fashions from the disco era include lapels, lounge suits and butterfly collars. Anyone who remembers the seventies remembers hip huggers, crop tops, and leggy pajama dresses. Today, techno has inspired more people to wear baggy pants and tight t-shirts. Techno has also inspired new and exotic hair styles and clothes with lots of pockets. Disco songs had lyrics and interlude scores that were meaningful for the listeners in the eighties.

So is the same with techno music today. Techno songs do not have a lot of lyrics, but when it does it is usually a woman or a man with his voice sped up to sound higher. How does this apply to disco? Have you heard the song "Staying Alive" by the Bee Gee's? There is not a single woman in the band, even though it sounds like it. Another saying you may have hears is 'disco fever".

Disco was everywhere, from clubs and fashion, to movies, radio and television. Techno music is not only the same; it is the same to the second power. Movie soundtracks are filled with techno music, and a lot of movies scenes have a rave featured in them. A rave is a concert setting for a techno DJ's to play. Techno is on the radio and television shows, and most video games have a techno soundtrack.
