Tom A Nickel example essay topic

My static image portrays the idea of appearance vs. reality, what seems to be is not always true. The vertical line in my image represents the gap between appearance and reality. The quote I have chosen is relevant because the characters in the film "Strictly Ballroom" directed by Baz Luhrman are putting on their "happy faces" to cover up the reality and corruption that exists in the world of ballroom dancing. The mask over the face on the left with heavy make-up emphasises the artificiality of the world hidden behind the glamour. Like Scott's mother Shirley, she is covering up reality and not showing true feelings. The face on the right symbolises reality, they do not hide behind a mask but show their true feelings by being honest and genuine.

This is a contrast to those who are based on appearance. The colour light brown covers most of the face on the right, I have used this colour because it symbolises genuineness. I have used the colours yellow and blue as it means happy and calm. But what seems to be is not the truth as they are only putting on an appearance.

Barry Fife on the outside seems noble, but underneath is an evil man. This is about a girl in 'To kill a mockingbird' Local girl Mayella Ewell was raped by a local Negro named Tom Robinson. The trial ended today when Tom Robinson was found guilty. We recall Mayella and Tom's side of the story from the trial. Mayella Ewell says that she'd give Tom a nickel to chop some wood she couldn! |t handle. As she went into the house for the nickel, she turned around to see Tom behind her.

He then hit her, choked her and raped her. Witness, Mr Bob Ewell saw it through the window and came rushing in. By then Tom had ran away. Tom Robinson's side is completely different as Tom denied raping Mayella. He says "K every time I passed by yonder she'd have some little somethin' for me to do "choppin' kindlin'". Tom says that Mayella calls him over many times to do things for her.

She invited him into the house for a drink the day of the rape and she came onto him. Scared, Tom ran. The next thing he knew he was accused for rape. The Juries believed that Tom Robinson was guilty. Shortly Tom will be sent to prison where he will be sentenced to death.
