Title: Adventures of Tom Sawyer Author: Mark Twain Summary: This story is about a boy named Tom Sawyer. He made a lot of pranks on people. Once he had to go to the church. But before going, he had to take a bath. So his Aunt Polly put him in a bathtub with water. He hated to take baths, so he didn't take them.

He threw the water away, telling his aunt that he had already taken a bath. She noticed that his hair was still dry, so she made another bath for him full of water and soap. She told him to take another bath and he did. Tom didn't always go to school and played a lot with his friend Huckleberry Finn.

The kids from town weren't allowed to play with him, because he was a bad mannered boy. Then a new girl came to school: Becky Thatcher. Tom fell in love with her, but she ignored him. And he often went to the place where she lived.

One day Tom went to the forest where he found Huckleberry Finn, who lived in the forest without his parents. Huckleberry had warts, so they decided to do something about it. They agreed to go to the graveyard in the middle of the night to cure Huckleberry from his warts. When they arrived there, they were very scared and saw three men.

Later they recognized them as Injun Joe, Muff Potter and Dr. Robinson. They were robbing the grave of a man who died a few days ago. The two boys were hidden behind some bushes, and could see and hear everything that was happening. All of a sudden the three men got into a fight and then Injun Joe killed Dr. Robinson. Muff Potter was unconscious at that time, because he was knocked down.

When Potter regained consciousness, Injun Joe told Potter that he killed Dr. Robinson. Potter was nervous from the time they got there, and he believed Injun Joe. Injun Joe told him that the best he can do right now, is to run away, and hide; and when he met someone, he should act normal. Then Injun Joe left the graveyard, too.

Tom and Huckleberry saw it all, and were witnesses. But they were too scared that Injun Joe would come back for revenge if they told the people in the town what happened. The whole town went to the graveyard the next day, because Dr. Robinson was found dead there. Tom and Huckleberry went too.

When they arrived there they also saw Muff Potter. A man who lived near the graveyard told them that it was Potter, who did it. His dog barked that night and when the man looked to see what it was, he recognized Potter. Tom did not want to go to school, because he was scared of Injun Joe. Tom's brother Sidney told him he had been talking in his sleep. Tom pretended that he was sick, but it didn't work.

At first he told Sidney that he should call Aunt Polly, because he was about to die. That really scared Sidney and it made him run to Aunt Polly. She wasn't as scared as Sidney was, because she knew that Tom wasn't serious about it. Tom tried to convince her. Aunt Polly wasn't convinced. She asked him what the matter was.

He said that his toe hurt so much that it would kill him. Now it was very obvious that Tom was too imaginative again, and therefore he had to go to school, just like all the other kids. A few weeks later he really got ill. They even feared that he was going to die. Tom was not at all representative, there was absolutely no power left in him. Then he got new medicine.

Aunt Polly was convinced that it would work. The medicine was called: Painkiller. It burns away all the bad stuff inside of you. Tom hated it; it tasted awful.

Only tasting it would make a person feel sick. But Tom recovered a bit. He even had the strength to tease someone or at least something. His aunt's cat wanted to taste a Painkiller, but Tom said he could not, because he is not ill, and besides, it tasted so bad... Tom would not want him to get sick, too. Still, the cat was trying to get a Painkiller.

Again Tom explained why he should not. And Aunt Polly told Tom to leave the cat alone. After Tom's second speech towards the cat, the cat had not changed his mind. Well, said Tom, it is your decision. I warned you, but you will not listen to me, so the consequences are yours. After telling the cat all this, he gave it a Painkiller.

The cat ate it, but after a while he started running through the room, behaving like a mad animal. Tom lied on the ground roaring with laughter. Then Aunt Polly entered the room. She saw the cat running through the room, acting like a nut. Tom told her that he warned the cat, but Aunt Polly told him that the cat couldn't understand him. Tom should have been wiser.

Tom felt a bit sorry for the cat, but found it funny, too. The Holidays came, and Becky went on vacation with her mother. Tom was bored. He had to do some work) paint a fence white) for Aunt Polly, and he was only allowed to play when he was ready. Tom said he liked his job more than playing. At first the children did not believe him, but Tom kept on saying he really did.

Then the children ask him if they could do it, too. Tom first said 'no', and the children asked him if they could give their toys and other stuff to him. He did not turn them down now anymore. On another day: Tom and Huckleberry went to the forest to dig for a treasure but they kept on failing. They got an idea it was to an island: Jackson's Island, to become pirates. They went with some boys.

They liked it the first days, but when it took longer, most of them wanted to go home really bad. Tom also missed his aunt, but he didn't want to admit it. He went to town at night and he saw his aunt Polly crying He also heard about the service that would take place because of them. Then he got back to the island again.

Tom and Huckleberry tried to entertain the other boys, so that they would stay. This didn't last long because the boys were really homesick. Tom made a deal with them; they would stay a few more days, until the day of their service. At that service they would walk into the church like real heroes. So they did. Aunt Polly was very happy to have him back, and so were the other parents.

Once they were in a haunted house digging for a treasure when Injun Joe and another man came in. Tom and Huckleberry ran upstairs, so that they would not be seen. There they listened to what the two men were telling each other. Tom and Huckleberry found out that Injun Joe had the treasure. Suddenly, Injun Joe walked up the stairs to take a nap. Tom and Huckleberry couldn't escape because the floor broke in.

They stayed there until the coast was clear, and then left as fast as they could. From this time on Tom and Huckleberry followed Injun Joe because they wanted to know where the treasure was. They go to a hotel, where Injun Joe stayed. They search the room, but they couldn't find anything. The hotel owner told them that he had not been there for several days. Tom and Huckleberry decided to guard outside.

One day Injun Joe finally came to the hotel, but neither Tom nor Huckleberry had the guts to go into the room and take the treasure. One day Tom got invited to Becky's picnic party. He didn't want to miss it and he told Huckleberry to be on guard alone for a while. Tom, Becky and the other children ate something, and after that they played some games.

Tom and Becky went into the Mc Dougal's cave where they got lost. Becky told Tom that she told her mother that she could stay with Widow Douglas. Widow Douglas did not know about it yet, but it would be okay with her anyway. Tom told Huckleberry about this, too. At the time that Tom was gone, Huckleberry saw Injun Joe leaving the hotel.

He didn't know where Tom was at that moment, so he went to a man, to ask for advice. The man first told Huckleberry to take a bath and get some sleep because he looked miserable. The man and his son went and take a look at Widow Douglas' house. Meanwhile Tom and Becky realized that nobody would miss them the first days because everybody thought that they were with Widow Douglas. And at the time they would miss them, they would be dead already. It didn't take too long before Becky got exhausted.

She said that Tom should try to find his way back; she didn't have enough strength anymore. She would die there. Tom took a long piece of thread, and tied it up somewhere at the place where Becky was. Then he started searching his way out.

He was not very far away when he heard footsteps. He looked around the corner of the wall and saw Injun Joe by the light of a flashlight. Tom went back to Becky and told her to come along, because Injun Joe was coming. At first she does not want to, but later she goes with him. When Tom and Becky got out of the cave, He closed the cave and makes sure that Injun Joe was not able to open the cave again. Tom goes to Huckleberry and tells him that he has seen Injun Joe and that he knew where the treasure was.

Tom and Huckleberry took a boat and went back to the cave. There they searched for the treasure. Huckleberry saw a cross in the cave and thought that it was Injun Joe's ghost. He was scared because of this, but then Tom said that there are no ghosts in the neighborhood of crosses.

They kept on searching for the treasure and finally they found it. They went back to the village with the money. There, they told the people that they had found a treasure but nobody believed them so tom showed the treasure. Huckleberry could stay and live with the man who helped him.

And a few days later, Huckleberry told Tom that he could keep all the money. But when Huckleberry needed some, Tom had to give it to him. My opinion: I really liked this book! It was really fun to read. I saw the movie too but it was different than the book..
