Whenever the topic of abortion is brought up most people think all the way back to the trial of Roe vs. Wade. This was the trial that made it legal for women to have an abortion. As a member of the Catholic Church, we feel that abortion violates the 5th Commandment, Th all Shall Not Kill. But the laws now state that t a woman has a right to chose weather she want her baby or not.
The case of Roe vs. Wade started at the end of 1972 and ended in late January of the next year. The case had been filed by "Jane Roe"; unmarried women who wanted to safely and legally end her pregnancy. Siding with Roe, the Court struck down the Texas law. In its ruling, the Court recognized for the first time that the constitutional right to privacy is broad enough to encompass a woman's decision whether or not to terminate her pregnancy. Today an abortion is 10 times safer than childbirth. But that still doesnt make it right.
By 1992, changes in the make-up of the Supreme Court led many to believe that it might overturn Roe when it decided a challenge to several Pennsylvania abortion restrictions. As you probably know that case was unsuccessful and many people who were involved in that case are still fighting hard to stop abortion. As pro-life groups are getting larger and larger. One point that is being strongly backed up, is the fact that some pregnancies are cause by rape. This is commonly found in teens that cant support the baby physically or financially. People strongly believe that abortion should be available to the victims of rapes, but not to any one else that wants to take the life of their kid.
Either way the life of an innocent baby is going to be taken and that is wrong. I am also aware that many dysfunctional babies are being born because of mothers that have trouble with drugs and alcohol. If the parents are dumb enough to hurt their kids like this than they should be responsible for raising them or putting them u for an adoption. As you can see this topic has been very controversial over the years. For the last 28 years there has been many court cases to try to overturn this law or change it but they have all failed. It is now easier and safer than ever for women to have an abortion.
Our newly elected president is strongly against the women's right to chose but it is very unlikely that the law will change while he is in office. The fact is that, the life of an unborn is still being legally taken and should be stopped.
