Hepatitis and HIV transmissions are the biggest risks, especially when the consumer isn't sure if the tattoo parlor uses disposable needles and sterilization practices. The people in the stands are drawn in by what has become a common aspect among many athletes. Tattoos are transforming the athlete's original body into a true work of art. Every symbol or phrase holds a meaning as unique as the person already is. For example some of today's NBA superstars are not ashamed to show their artwork in their line of work.

Some include Alan Iverson of the Philadelphia 76 er's displays sixteen tattoos that describe his attitude in life. Only the strong survive, on the court and ones dedicated to his family and friends is what Iverson has inked on him. It makes certain people stand out and feel like an individual. I got the chance to talk with the artist, which has done two of my tattoos. He is one of the artists at Lark Tattoos. Corey Crowley has been tattooing for 15 years and used to live in Colorado. He told me that he has never been discriminated for his body art, which he proudly shows in his line of work. He said that he has no shame of showing off what he calls a "work of art".

But he has known people who have discriminated for there body art or piercing". The way I look at is that tattooing has been around for centuries, Tattoos are art to me everyone should be able to see and appreciate the beauty which is displayed... Ancient civilizations tattooed there tribe leaders to show that they were of higher class and the more body art you have the more you are respected... Why does it have the opposite view now?" (Interview with Corey Crowley of Lark Tattoos) I can say that I do believe that people are discriminated because of the artwork they have tattooed on there body. Some people look down upon people who have odd piercing like your tongue or eyebrow and also tattoos that can be seen. Sometimes I hear parents saying how gross they are they think the person or even kid is a criminal or a menace to society without even knowing him, this individual which they look down upon could be a better person then them.

Personally since I have tattoos I feel like my tattoos are artwork that took time to do and that you will have them forever. People go to museums and galleries to see paintings, which they enjoy, just think of the artwork on a human body as a walking canvas, which express feelings.
