The book I read for summer reading was A Time to Kill by John Grisham. In my thesis I will prove there is prejudice in the American judicial system. Without a fair trial, a ground stone for American democracy there is no justice. The story starts in a small southern town of Clanton, Mississippi in the 1960's; a black man Carl Lee Hailey awaits trial for murdering the two rednecks who viciously raped his 10-year-old daughter Tonya. A young, idealistic white lawyer takes up the father's defense, and the incendiary case becomes a firestorm of racism and controversy, ripping the town apart. There's one serious problem however in Jakes effort to set Carl Lee free, Carl Lee is black, and the two men he murdered were white.
