What is the value to us of remembering the Holy Angels? Well, since they appear to excel us in both knowledge and power, they remind us that, even among created things, we humans are not the top of the heap. Since it is the common belief that demons are angels who have chosen to disobey God and to be His enemies rather than His willing servants, they remind us that the higher we are the lower we can fall. The greater our natural gifts and talents, the greater the damage if we turn them to bad ends. The more we have been given, the more will be expected of us.

And, in the picture of God sending His angels to help and defend us, we are reminded that apparently God, instead of doing good things directly, often prefers to do them through His willing servants, enabling those who have accepted His love to show their love for one another. Angels, what are they? Angels might be called merely spirits, or even more drastic, mere figments of our imagination. However, there is something within the human spirit that has endured to these creatures for hundreds of years.

If this were not the case, then this page would not exist. Most of us, when we hear the work 'angel' think of either an elegant looking male with very youthful features, smooth skin, with two wings and long locks of hair, or we think of a small child, perhaps two or three years old, with two tiny wings and a rosy face. This second image is the image of a cherub. As you will soon see, this depiction could be no further from the truth!

It is said that when people are born, they are assigned two angels, a good angel and an evil angel. These two are with them all of the time. Myth has it that when a person does a bad thing, he or she is listening to their evil angel, and vice versa. Besides talking to us, these two angels also have the job of writing within their books all of the good and bad deeds that a person does in his or her lifetime.

So, when that person dies, these two angels bring the soul of the person and their two books and presents all three to the judge of souls. Based on what is written down within these two books, the soul will either enter heaven or be thrown into Hell. Angels are supposed to be everywhere, and we are just supposed to look real hard to see them. Maybe they are there, and maybe they are not, who knows...

? The Angelic Hierarchy is the way in which the angels of heaven are grouped. It is kind of like a corporation. You have the head man, the board of directors, supervisors, managers, and the regular employee. Angels are grouped into a similar arrangements, although the stakes are a little higher. An angel of a lower rank trying to make its way up can very easily get disintegrated by an angel above him.

It is wise to know one's place and to not overstep one's bounds. Here is the hierarchy of angels in descending order: Seraphim, Cherubim, Thrones (Oph anim), Domination (Hashmallim), Virtues (Tarshish im), Powers, Principalities, Archangels, Angels. Seraphim: The word Seraphim is the plural for Seraph. The word Seraph is a conjunction of two Hebrew words, Raph a meaning healer, and Ser meaning guardian angel. Do not get these beings confused with a normal guardian angel, however!

It is said that if any living being were to lay eyes upon a Seraph, that living being would be instantly destroyed, literally incinerated on the spot due to the immense brightness of the Seraph. Their appearance is frightening, being very tall and ominous. Each Seraph has six wings and four heads. These four heads point out into the four cardinal directions. The Seraph are few in number compared to the other orders of the angels, but their power and virtue surpass all of their subordinates.

In Christian mythology they are said to be in the direct presence of God and His glory. Some reputed leaders of the Seraphim are Megatron, Kem uel, Nathanael, Gabriel, and Lucifer. (1967. Davidson).
