Two Different Versions Of Romeo And Juliet example essay topic

Many of Shakespeare's plays have been made into movies. Most recently two different versions of Romeo and Juliet were produced. In 1968 Franco Zeffirelli directed a classic version and in 1996 Baz Luhrmann directed a modern version. There were many differences between the two movies. The settings for the two movies were very different. In Franco Zeffirelli's version the story took place in the 1500's Italy.

In Baz Luhrmann's version, it took place in a modern day times in a big city. When Baz Luhrmann remade the story I think he was probably thinking that the water could symbolize good things and bad thing. For example when Romeo met Juliet, he met her through a fish tank. Another example is when Mercurio died a storm started and nobody likes storms so it was bad. I think he did this because water if essential to life and if bad and good things don't happen in life then it would be boring. The characters in the two different stories were different in a few ways but they seemed mostly the same.

The similarities between the two Romeos are that they both loved Juliet and would die for her. The similarities with the two Juliets is that they both wanted to die instead of marry Paris and didn't want Romeo to go. The difference between the two Juliets is that in the Luhrmann version, she didn't seem to be as worried about the potion. In the Luhrmann version there is a costume party in which the people dress up like the character they are. For example Romeo dresses up like a knight because he is like a knight in shining armor to Juliet.

Juliet dressed up as an angel, because she is like an angel sent from heaven for Romeo. Capulet dresses up as Bacchus, because he is an alcoholic. Ty balt dressed up as a devil, because he is evil and wants to kill Romeo. Needless to say if someone saw both of these movies they would also find more differences and similarities. The settings were different in many ways and many would agree. The characters showed many similarities but also were extremely different.

Most people would agree that there is hundreds maybe even thousands of differences in these movies, and if someone were to write them all down it would probably be very long.
