The traditional Venezuela foods are black beans, cooked bananas, and rice that are usually eaten with beef, pork, poultry or fish. Pabellon is stewed and shredded meat that is served with rice, black beans, and banana. The traditional bread is a cornmeal cake called area.
The national dish is hall aca, this is their traditional Christmas dish and that is a cornmeal dough stuffed and then wrapped in banana leaf. Venezuela natural resources are petroleum, natural gas, iron ore, gold bauxite, other minerals, hydro-power and diamonds. Venezuela is one of the world's leading oil-producing nations. Venezuela is important to world energy markets because it holds oil reserves of 77.8 billion barrels of oil. Oil was discovered in 1914 and what use to be a poor country is now the richest in South America.
Over the last 20 years the mining industry has really grown. Large amounts of iron ore are mined as well as diamonds coal, bauxite and gold. Coffee was the main industry before the big oil fine. They still produce coffee. Some other crops are cocoa, sugarcane, bananas, corn, and rice. They also manufacture food products, building materials, textiles, chemical and automobiles.
Tourism is also a big industry that brings in a lot of money to the country. With its tropical climate and beautiful landscape. Most of the visitors are from Germany, Holland, England and Canada. Venezuela has also fine arts and handicrafts. The country is also known for its music, which is a blend of European and African rhythms.
The Venezuela flag has three colors, yellow, blue and red. The yellow is at the top and it stands for the golden land of South American. Red stands for courage and the blood of the freedom fighters and the Blue represents the ocean that separates South America from Spain. The coat of arms is on the top right side of the yellow band and the seven white five pointed stars are centered in the blue. The flag was established February 17, 1954. The most celebrated event in Venezuela is the Carnaval.
It takes place in the month of February. It is on the Monday and Tuesday before Ash Wednesday. They have music, dance, parades and masquerades. The jor opo is the Venezuela's national folk dance.
