Very Abnormal Person example essay topic
Psychopathology can be caused by a human's disordered mental life, and mental illness can be cured by helping to change behavior, emotion and thought. The three causes of abnormalities that I am going to talk about are biological, psychological, and sociocultural. I am going to start by talking about the biological causes starting with genetic inheritance, medical conditions, exposure to bad environment, and brain damage. The psychological one are traumatic life experiences, learned associations, faulty ways of thinking, and distorted perceptions. The sociocultural ones are stated as disturbances in intimate relationships and problems in extended relationships, political or social unrest, and discrimination towards one's social group. The early approaches of abnormal behavior are animism that abnormal behavior is a possession by evil or demons.
This was treated by trephination this is where holes where made in the head so the evils spirits can escape from them. They looked for physical causes such as a wandering uterus. There are seven variables of abnormalities: Suffering, Maladaptive ness, Irrationality, Unpredictability & Loss of Control, Rareness and Unconventionality, Observer Discomfort, and Violation Standards - Socially and Culturally Unacceptable Behavior. I have known Dave for a very long time now and he is a very abnormal person. Dave would seem very normal to you the first time you meet him but after the first encounter the second one would be totally different you would start to think that he is a very abnormal person that he is. So let talk about some of his major abnormalities to Dave none of these are going to be abnormal for him because he has been use to him all his life.
Dave has been diagnosed with Schizophrenia in his early childhood. His parents weren't aware of what was going on with him because the beginning stages were very hard to tell what was going on. Dave started with have acute schizophrenia this was when his symptoms only occurred very little. He was started on treatment medical and also mental treatment since it was just a acute form of the disorder he was able to go out in public and drive and do every thing else that a normal human being would do.
After many years' passes his symptoms were getting worse and after a point the doctors diagnosed him with having a chronic from of schizophrenia. This disorder can start in a chronic stage meaning that his symptoms where a every day coming thing and then they slowly become acute meaning that they are very little symptoms and the person is normal for most of the time. This disorder can also turn and work the other way also like in Dave's case start little and progress into something even worse and not get better. The symptoms that I noticed with him were he had crazy and very different motor symptoms like if any one would go near him he would back off or move away very quickly he would start to twitch. At times he would be very excited when there was no reason to be excited he would be positively and negatively be excited. These symptoms that I noticed where the catatonic type of schizophrenia.
Dave's symptoms lead to being very disorganized and a combination of change in his speech and a drastic change in his behavior. He would speech like with a slurred voice he would have violent out bursts. The paranoid type also came out in Dave has had many delusions and he would hear very odd noises and just start to hallucinate as if he was on drugs. There are two types of schizophrenia. Type one is a very rapid onset with delusions and hallucinations and thought disorders that are easily treatable. Type two on the other hand is not as simple as type one.
Type two are characterized by negative symptoms the affect of speech and a loss of will to function in every day life. There is an absence of normal human functioning. This type is extremely hard to treat. In Dave's case he has both types of schizophrenia at one point in his life. Many doctors and the help of strong medications treated all of these symptoms successfully. There are many medications out in the market today that treat the brain chemistry to help the human to function normal and to let the person live a normal life as any other human would.
