The war in 1775 for the Americans to gain independence had a large effect on many different types of people. The American Revolution had a large impact on all the people, especially the ones who participated. It also had very many consequences for the people involved. The Revolutionary War involved a large number of Native Americans. The Indians were taken advantage of by the Americans because they were taking over their land. The small villages were displaced by white settlement.

The more stronger tribes dominated most of the interior region between the Appalachian Mountains and the Mississippi River. The Native Americans had such a powerful military force, that by spring of 1776, both the British and the Americans were looking for the Indian alliances. To get them as allies, England provided them with trade goods, arms, and markets for furs, also promised protection against colonial expansion. In 1777 when the Iroquois decided to side with the British, Americans' revenge came quickly after. General John Sullivan led a series of raids with the motto: "Civilization or death to all American savages". During the summer of 1779 they killed countless numbers of the Iroquois tribes.

The Indians regretted siding with the British, because the British ignored the Indian allies at the peace talks. As a result of the war, the Indian struggle for the whites to expand would continue. A group of people that suffered the greatest amount of loss during the revolution were the loyalists. In all of the states, laws were set that deprived loyalists from their rights. They weren't allowed to vote, they took their land and property and banished them from their homes. Punishing the people who were loyal was very politically popular.

As a result of the war, most of the states repealed their earlier laws and allowed the loyalists to return. They hoped the loyalist experiences and skills would help the states to recover from the war. The war was based on white Americans and British, but it seemed to get the African Americans involved in the war as well. The African Americans were serving as slaves. In 1775, the royal governor of Virginia, Lord Dunmore, made a proclamation, giving slaves freedom to own bare arms and fight for the British. The Congress or states weren't too excited to see the slaves free an armed, therefore less slaves fought on the American side.

Of the ones who did serve the Patriot cause, many were issued what they were promised and set free. James Lafayette, a Virginia slave, served against the British for the French as a spy. In recognition of his work, the Virginia General Assembly granted him his freedom in 1786. Women did not play a very large role in the Revolutionary War. Women had neither voted nor held political office during the war. Women often wrote and spoke freely to each other about public events.

As the war progressed, women began to speak to the public. During the colonial times, women's traditional roles took on a new political meaning. While the English imports were cut off, the army was in need of clothing. Women began to make shirts and other items of clothing.

The women also took on the role of being motherly and caring and nurturing the children. The politics and government were an exclusively male domain that did not easily die, the women developed new ties to the public realm during the revolutionary years. The Revolutionary War had a great effect on many different people who lived through it. Some of those effects have even carried through and people are still experiencing it. The war was between the Americans and British yet it involved and effected many different races and societies..
