Violent Programs On Tv example essay topic
The most frequent viewers are children, but what are the effects of watching so much TV on young children? Too much television not only reduces the time spent on concrete learning activities, it can reduce their capacity to learn. Young children are naturally curious, busy and active, which helps them to learn about the world around them. Television is a passive experience, whether it is educational or not. Educational TV doesn't offer the child opportunities to focus attention on one subject for a long period. TV is one-way communication, which doesn't allow the child to respond, to improve his or her communication skills.
Another negative influence is the impact of television violence on children. This is probably the most serious result. Watching violent programs on TV can lead to violent behaviour of the children. Under certain conditions some children will imitate violent acts that they witness on television.
These are some of the negative influences of TV on children. Now what can we do about this? Of course there are programs on TV which are suitable for children, such as Sesame Street, but other programs like horror movies are not! We can not change what is on TV, but we can censor what the children watch. Secondly we can turn off the TV, this is often a lot easier than it may seem! At first they may need some help or ideas because they don't know what to do with all their spare time, but once they know how to deal with it, they will realise it is great to do so many other things!
