Warning Signs example essay topic

460 words
In life, everything comes with a price tag. It does not have to necessarily be of monetary value, but it may cost time, energy, or unnecessary frustration and stress. I learned it the hard way... when I encountered one of those famous", starting your day off on the wrong foot", days. To say the least, I learned a lot about myself that day. Martin Luther King once said", The strength of a man's character is not in the quiet times of rest, but character comes from the heated trials of adversity". You know it's going to be "one of those days" when your supervisor calls you at home to wake you up at 6: 30 am to let you know that you are officially late for your 6: 00 am shift.

The greatest thing I enjoy about working at 6: 00 am to 3: 00 pm is that I miss the rush hour traffic going and coming. Unfortunately, that morning I was going to come face to face with the enemy of my soul. It just so happens that I ignored the warning signs, such as, the little red engine light that stared me in my face every time I got behind the wheel, or the faint wheezing sound my engine would make each time I turned the ignition key. These, in addition to, other cues went on for weeks.

One of these early warning signs even came in psychology class. A topic on a video we were watching just so happened to be on procrastination. It challenged us to think of something we were putting off doing, but would make life a lot easier by getting it done. 'Car maintenance,' I wrote in the margin of my paper, which now serves as an ode to the procrastinators motto", Never do today, what you can put off for tomorrow".

Why is it that during those heated moments of problems a little movie screen pops up in our mind, replaying all the opportunities we had to prevent the problem itself. That to me is more frustrating than the problem itself. When I added up all the expenses (besides the $599.12 for a new radiator, two new hoses, an oil filter, in addition to labor), the externalities were far greater than the monetary expense. Rush hour traffic...

1.5 hours. .. 3 hours Missed work... 10 minutes Finding a (reputable) mechanic... 2.5 hours Waiting for a ride... 2 hours and 45 minutes Parents nagging...

30 minutes TOTAL COST / LOSS = Approximately, a full days work, including overtime, plus a two weeks pay LESSON LEARNED = PAID IN FULL.
