Wrestling The Most Common Thing example essay topic
We watched wrestling first and to my surprise it was not as bad as I thought. There are actual story lines that go on through the whole show, just like a soap opera such as General Hospital. The wrestlers I saw were amazing they were so muscular and talented. I was in shock because I thought that I hated wrestling more than anything... didn't I? After watching it a few more times I became hooked and I have since learned all about wrestling and what a truly great sport it is. People assume that wrestlers are just faking all the moves they perform, and that they really are not that strong.
After watching wrestling for so long I have learned a lot about the wrestlers and their backgrounds. Many of the professional wrestlers played high school and college football. A prime example of this is my favorite wrestler The Rock, he played football for the Miami Hurricanes and was an All-American player. The skill required to perform these moves is not something everyone has.
I doubt that a person with out training could lift a 300 lbs. plus man up and throw him around a wrestling ring. The wrestlers train everyday and are true athletes. While most of the moves are fake they do require there is risk involved. Countless wrestlers have been injured doing these "fake" moves. Two good examples are Bret Hart and Owen Hart. Bret Hart was performing a move of the top rope and when he landed he broke almost all of his ribs.
No one knew he was serious so the show went on. Most people have heard about Owen Hart, who passed away this year while performing a routine entrance which involved being lowered from the ceiling, the ropes broke and he plunged to his death. Every Monday night millions of people around the world are captivated by professional wrestling. On Monday, November 3, 1999 8.75 million people tuned in to watch wrestling (web 11/5/99). It is beat out in the ratings only by Monday Night Football. Professional wrestling draws a huge live audience where ever they go.
The shows are amazing with all their acrobatics and story lines. Wrestling is a form of entertainment just like any other television show. Thousands of people tune in everyday to soap operas such as General Hospital and One Life to Live because the story lines are designed to keep you coming back for more to see what will happen next, the same is true for wrestling. Wrestling has story lines that range from marriages, sex, injuries, and even animals which are the same things that The Bold and The Beautiful cover.
Wrestling shows are scripted and pre-planned but it takes some acting skill to be able to perform it at the level they do. The wrestlers are so convincing that you find yourself believing the stories are true. I have been to three live wrestling shows and have had the chance to see a few wrestlers up close. While at these shows it is very apparent how much people love wrestling. The fans are so involved in the shows. The wrestlers taunt the crowd just for a reaction and the fans follow through with huge reactions.
When a wrestler comes out the crowd goes wild, fans start screaming and chanting things. Fans make posters to bring to the events either supporting or bashing the wrestlers with the hope that their sign would make it on television. When I went to the events I brought three signs supporting some of my favorite wrestlers but much to my disappointment I didn't make it on TV. When a wrestling event is coming to a city the tickets are such a hot commodity that they sell out in no time. Professional wrestling is quality entertainment for millions of people around the world. While it is scripted and for the most part fake, it is still loved by people of all ages.
The wrestlers are athletes with incredible strength and talent in athletics as well as acting. The story lines draw people in so they want to watch more, just like any other soap opera. I consider wrestling just another form of the soap opera and definitely has me addicted.
