Article 2 of the Swiss Constitution states that, "The Swiss Confederation protects the liberty and rights of the people and safeguards the independence and security of the country". This article is very similar to that of the First Amendment of the United States' Constitution. This amendment states: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
