The Vietnam War The Vietnam War is a great case study in critical thinking. The American people have many different opinions on the United States entering the war. Some Americans were hawks and wanted to go to war in Vietnam. They thought that the Americans were right for entering the war. On the other hand, people thought we had no reason for entering the war.

The main reason this war makes a great case study is because it is very controversial. The first narrator thought that we were absolutely right for getting involved in Vietnam and should of won. According to the narrator, the communist were the biggest threat to the South Vietnam people. Many North Vietnamese fled their home to live in South Vietnam because of the communist rule. According to the Domino Theory, if we didn't stop communism now, more nations would fall to this form of government. We needed to step in and help South Vietnam.

The narrator said that we would have won but there were many factors that made us fail. One of the main reasons was that the Vietminh were more determined than the United States. People didn't see a reason to fight in Vietnam. The cause of this was because of the media. The media only portrayed bloody and gory scenes of Vietnam.

Even though the United States won every battle, the media showed only the worst of what happened. Therefore, large peace protests came about. The protests had a big influence on Americans and President Johnson. Americans became tired of the war. The media and protests influenced Johnson to hold back when we could have won.

The narrator basically blamed Johnson and the government for not taking better action. Johnson was too concerned with his "Great Society" program to be concerned about the war. A lot of people like to think that the United States definitely could have won this war. But, because of the government, we lost the war.

However, other people thought we were wrong from the beginning. People thought communism wasn't a big threat and we had no reason at all to have a war. The second narrator had a completely different view on America's entry into the Vietnam War. He thought that there was no reason at all for the United States to become involved in the war. The narrator said that "the Vietnamese people always fought foreign rule and the United States didn't need to help". He also said that the French colonialism was brutal.

They took away all their old ways of living and made South Vietnam look like Paris. Although the French increased rice production, they exported it and made money off of it. According to the narrator, communism wasn't as big as a threat as the United States brought it out to be. He said that the Vietminh were made up of students, women professionals, and some communists. Also, The Americans were killing Vietnamese instead of capturing land. The United States used chemicals like Agent Orange.

Agent Orange killed trees and contaminated crops. In the search and destroy missions, Americans were killing innocent civilians. The South Vietnamese opposed American help. More and more South Vietnamese wanted to live in North Vietnam. Also, Americans didn't want to fight the war. They wanted peace.

Many people rallied in front of the Democratic Convention Center. The second narrator thought the United States could not win the war in Vietnam. In conclusion, the war in Vietnam was very debatable. Some Americans supported being in Vietnam others opposed going to war. In my opinion, I think the United States was right for entering the war but, we just needed a better military strategy to win. The Vietnam War is a good case study because most people can relate the problems we faced back then to the war on terrorist today.

Today, some people say we should have a war with Iraq before they do something to the United States. On the other hand, some people see no reason for a war..
