Block Of Ice example essay topic
She told him that before he married her, he had to go to church and Sunday school for two month. Well after about five weeks he had a "spiritual breakthrough". He, realizing she would never marry him if he was not a Christian, accepted Christ when the invitation is given at the end of the Sunday school course. She was thrilled, and they were married four months later. He now lives each day saying that he is a Christian and pretending to be, but if you were able to look into his soul, you would find a heart completely cold to the Word.
Then one day he awakes in a dark forest surrounded by nothing but trees. After a few hours, he hears a voice coming from the what seems to be every direction... "Hello Alakhai. My name is Surealla.
I am here to take you on a journey in the hope that you will see the Truth. Please do not ask questions, for we do not have much time. We must go before it is too late". As I look before me, a young girl appears, dressed in a white robe and caring a book. Upon further observation I see that the book is actually the Bible. "Please take my hand and follow me.
I want to show you something". As we walked, it seemed like the woods were growing thicker and darker. I could smell a very faint odor that resembled that of a wet dog. As I looked ahead of me, I saw a very large door. It looked very heavy to open. It was clearly black, but it seemed to have some red tint to it.
As we moved closer to it, I could see that the door was covered in... in blood? At that point I turned to run away, and behind me was a sight so frightening that I almost fainted. It was at least as big as a house and was right behind us. "Surealla?"Yes. We are almost there.
Not to far now."Do you know we are being followed by some huge beast with three heads?" He he. I know he cannot harm you do not worry. His name is Cerberus. He has been condemned to guard the entrance. He will not hurt anyone going in, but if anyone tries to escape he will tear them into pieces".
The joyful tone in her voice really started to scare me more than the great beast that was right behind us. Where were we going? I mean a three headed dog was right behind us, and we were approaching a door dripping with blood. Yet for some strange reason that I still cannot explain, I felt completely safe.
"Where are we going Surrealla?"We are going to Hell. We must go there, for a being as foul as you could never enter the gates of heaven. You must see the Truth before it is to late. You say that you are a Christian to please your wife, but in reality you really still think He is a fairytale. You do not think Heaven or Hell exists. You are like the Trojan Horse.
You appear good on the outside so that your wife will let her gate down, but what she does not realize is that inside of you is the very thing that will lead to her destruction. You do not even feel bad for deceiving her. How could you love someone and be so fake to them? I hope this journey changes your mind.
Due to the lack of time, we cannot go through the first through levels of Hell. We must go directly to the third level so that you can see where you are headed and what is in store for you if you do not change". My God, I thought. Could this be happening? Everything I know as a human said it was a dream, but how could a dream be so real?
I could feel the heat and smell the death on the back of my neck from the beast walking just a few feet behind me. You do not feel heat and smell things in dreams, and yet I was doing just that very thing. We finally got to the door, and as I looked up, I read an inscription. It said, 'ENTER ALL THOSE WHO HAVE FAILED TO KNOCK. ' Just then Surrealla said, "You will understand that as soon as our journey is finished. I have been told I cannot tell you what it means.
You must find out on your own". With that the door opened, and we entered with the great beast staying behind. As soon as we passed through the door I could not believe what was before my eyes. Blocks of ice? Yes there were two rows one on each side of the room, but the room did not seem to have an end. The blocks were tall and relatively skinny they were all of varying size but not at such great amounts that I really thought anything of it.
It was so cold in there that I almost could not stand it. The air was as thick as lead. I was having a hard time even breathing. I looked at Surrealla and saw that she was crying, but I did not know why until I looked at the blocks of ice more carefully.
First off I could tell that the blocks were suspended in mid air. Nothing was holding them. And when I looked underneath for some logical explanation, all that I could see were pieces of wood stacked up like someone would do if they were going to start a fire. Then I looked in the blocks of ice and saw that inside, not just in one or two but in all of them, there were people. One person was in every block of ice, and it looked as though they were tied to a stake of some sort. Why were all these people here?
What did they do that made them deserve to be frozen into block of ice? How long had they been here? How could we release them? Just as I was about to ask Surrealla these very questions, she looked at me. "They are people just like you.
They have been here for varying amounts of time. Some a few minutes, some hundreds of years. You cannot release them, but in time they will be let out temporarily, only to be frozen again. They are completely conscience of what is going on around them.
They are aware of time, and they have all their memories from their lives on earth". I was speechless. I walked down the isle of people looking at them, looking at their faces and the expressions frozen on them. They all seemed to have the same look of terror and pain. When I walked a little farther, I saw someone I knew. He was one of my friends in college.
We had partied all the time together. I could not believe it was really him because he was always such a great Christian when I knew him. "Why is he here? He was always such a great guy, and he always said he was a Christian. So why isn't he in heaven.
I thought that is where Christians go". With that I saw Surrealla hang her head and look directly at the ground. It seemed that she could not look at me. "He only said he was a Christian, just as everyone in this hall did. They went around claiming to be Believers but never really accepted Christ. They went through each day with their own gods.
Some even used their claim to faith for their own gain. That man right there was the pastor of a church in 1837, and he would give what seemed to be a wonderful spiritually filled message. Then he would swindle all of the people in that church out of their money, saying it was what God wanted them to do. He would take their money and use it for his own personal gain. You see God wants you to be either hot or cold not somewhere lost in the middle. He would rather you be cold as ice than use the grace he gives for your own personal gain.
All these people are here because they never were really Christians at all. They just used the title for some perverted reason, whether it be to rebel against their parents or to swindle people out of money. Some used it to gain power, and some to attract a husband or wife... ". Just then, as I looked around, I saw some faint glow appear underneath of all the blocks of ice, and I felt the air around me begin to warm.
I went up to the closest block and got on my hands and knees to see where the glow was coming from. I could see a little flame slowly growing. I looked up at Surealla and saw her start to cry even harder. "Surealla what is happening?"They are receiving the rest of their punishment.
The first part is being cold; the second is being hot. Just watch and see. This will be you if you do not change". I looked at the fires underneath the blocks and saw that the blocks beginning to melt. Then I realized what was about to happen; I realize why all the people in the ice were tied to stakes.
The air became so hot that I felt my lungs burning. The screams were so horrifying that I could not hear my own thoughts. They sounds of people burning alive pierced my ears as though Zeus himself had thrown one of his great lighting bolts into the innermost part ear. The putrid smell of burring flesh filled the air. It was so strong that I ran to the wall and vomited. I could hardly breathe; I did not want to breathe.
The sight of the people was the most horrifying thing of all. The looks upon their charred faces was that of fear, pain, and agony. Their faces will be forever sketched in my mind. "After they turn to ashes, they will regenerate and be frozen again. It will happen once a day for the rest of eternity. There is still hope for you.
You can still be saved; all that you have to do is accept the Truth that you have heard for almost six years now. You know what to do, and now the only thing left is for you to make the right choice. You still have time; how much time? Only God himself knows that... ". I awoke at my desk at work, dazed and very confused.
I wiped the sweat from my brow and was relieved to see that everything was back to normal. No great dog with three heads. No people burning alive. No putrid smells. It all had seemed so real. I looked up and on my desk was a note on top of a very old Bible.
The note had nothing on it but a verse, Revelation 3: 16.
