The Ottoman Empire was one of the greatest dynasties in the world. It was also the longest lasting empire in the world. It lasted 643 years, from 1281 to 1924. The Ottoman Empire had many great leaders and also had some leaders who led to the fall of the empire. The founder of the Ottoman Empire was Osman Gazi (also known as Osman Khan or Osman Bey). He came from a great line of leaders who had led the Kay i Tribe, which is a famous Turkish tribe.

When Osman Gazi's father died he was elected leader. He later got large tracts of land from the Byzantine Empire. When he got this land he was faced by an alliance by the Byzantine Emperors of Brusa and Nice and Yarhisar and Karadjahisar. Seeing this, he declared the Ottoman Empire to war. During the war, he attacked Nice and Karadjahisar. The Ottoman state began as one of many small Turkish states that emerged in Asia Minor during the breakdown of the empire of the Seljuk Turks.

In 1299, Osama Gazi declared independence of the Ottoman Empire. By doing this, he appointed wardens, judges and magistrates to take charge of strong points. In 1326, Bursa was captured and later became the capital of the Ottoman Empire. Osman Gazi later died that year. Ar Khan became leader now. During his reign nothing really happened.

About 35 years later in 1361, the city of Edirne was captured. This also became a capital of the empire under the rule of Murad Awwa l. At this time, the Ottomans began to build mosques, schools and made Ottoman money. Close to the end of the fourteenth century, the Ottomans had constant battles. These battles were with Kosovo and Niko pol, which were both won by the Ottomans. By winning these battles, the Ottomans got a lot of land and large parts of the Balkan Peninsula became under Ottoman rule.

In 1390, Bayezid became leader of the empire. Bayezid was trying to conquer all the lands of Europe. He began by beginning a siege in Istanbul but the Samarkand ruler, Amir Timour, forced him down. In 1400, Bayezid renewed the siege but the invasion by Timour caused him back down once again. Two years later, Bayezid gathered his forces and attacked Angora but once again he was stopped by Timour and taken prisoner and died while in captivity in 1403. Muhammad Fatih reigned from 1451-1481.

He recaptured a lot of land that Timour had taken away from the Ottomans when Bayezid was ruler. He also strengthened the navy, who Poland and Italy, which led to the capture of Constantinople. During his reign the empire expanded greatly and became much stronger. Fatih later died on his way to Egypt to do battle.

Fatih's son, Bayezid II succeeded him after his death.
