Comic Book Heroes example essay topic
I can say I know heroes but not the kind you might be thinking, the ones I know did not save the world or destroy evil creatures. The heroes I know have loved me all my life and I will love them all my life. You might know heroes just as I do and they might even be people I know. I know that my mom and dad are heroes because they meet my standard of one. My grandparents are heroes to me because they show the characteristics of what I think a hero is. Close to two years ago the tragic 9/11 occurred and probably brought forth the most heroes this country had seen in awhile.
The firefighters and police officers and all those who worked hard to save lives at ground zero are considered to be heroes by all and I agree. Now, the soldiers in Iraq, Afghanistan, and other countries are the heroes to Americans and maybe to other nations, too. I believe completely that we need heroes in our lives. If we did not have these people called heroes, we would not have people to set an example for the future of our nation. I think our country might have an excess amount of superheroes such as Spider-Man, Batman, Superman, the Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, and Captain America. There are so many more than just these few, and I am not saying it is a bad thing to have so many super hero figures but I think it distorts children's idea of a true hero.
Granted the kids the read or watch these super heroes are only between 4-13 they should still know who the real heroes are. When I was watching the History Channel during the summer one night, I saw an episode on comic book heroes and they explained how the writers of the comics used the heroes politically as well as a source of amusement. In the one comic the writers had a super hero beating up Nazis because of the war that was happening at the time. I thought that was very clever and amusing at the same time. In conclusion, I think society knows who the true heroes are and they know who the comic book heroes are. America's emphasis on heroes is not over done at all, people know who their heroes are and love them.
