How are we categorized? Walker Percy, Danny Senna's, and "Two Kinds" has developed many descriptions of different kinds of categories that can be presented in a person. To be categorized is to be judged by different views and opinions. The world has an image of characterizing everyone and everything in a sense of class.

Categories takes place in three areas: people, society, and other observant areas. First, people have the tendency of judging a person by their cover. The majority of the people only compare themselves as what they are by ethnic or color. Blacks with blacks, whites with whites, and others with others. It's hard for people like me to choose which table to sit at or who to say to be friends with because of me being a brown-skinned person. Now being in a category of a diverted-self, which leaves me as an open-minded person to not take anything offensively.

For instance, last week in the New York bombing. Since I have the same colored skin as the terri ost, I have been called all sorts of names. Nothing was taken personally because I understand that people are angry. I blame the majority of the parents too. Children take the same actions as what they are taught by parents. You teach your children to hate other people because they do not have the same skin color as you, causes more and more racial issues everywhere they go and everyone they see.

Maturity would be another key concept of people. They should not listen to what others have to say. For example, you tell me to go beat a person up because you do not like their skin color. The only reason I would go do it is because I want to prove to my friends that I can do it with no shame at all. What people have to say to you, should be kept as an open opinion of their knowledge.

What people see is what people judge. I can be an unattractive girl or a person who wears baggy clothes, but that does not make me a bad person. Everyone has there since of style and being a diverted, you keep your mind open to people and see what he or she has to say. Not just on what others want you to be.

People as a whole has a worry about how others will classify them and that should not be the issue. Weren't we all created to be equal? Secondly, there are many diversions that have been bought from generation to generation by society. Society has been brought up to be classified as ethnic and wealth. What can you offer to society is the question people ask. For example, throughout my years people have thought me as a rich girl, but if I told them where I lived before hand they would think completely different.

Society also depends on too much of what other people think. Back to the New York attack. I was walking in the mall and some random lady came up to me and my friend and said "are you crazy hanging out with a person who bombed your country". Now just because of what some lady, I haven't seen or talk to my friend in a while. It does not make a difference to me of what society has to say about me or anyone else. That is why it is good to be open-minded about being free to society.

Even society is broken down into ethnics and wealth. Take Memphis as an example. You have a bad part of town and you have a good part of town. You have the moneymakers and you have the non-money makers. It's just not here where I like, but it's everywhere. No one should have shame in what you are and what you do.

Finally, come the other things that show diversion. For instance, the book mentions television, on television they have certain channels that are meant to be for certain ethnic or age. What's the purpose of that? Simply because it has been passed down from generation to generation. Newspapers, another example, show other peoples business.

The Bill Clinton and Monica scandal. If one of the normal people is society did it, than who would have cared. Just because he was our president the made a huge deal out of it. He is just a human being like we are.

Clothes would be another example. Wearing baggy clothes or big shirts does not make a person dangerous or gangster. You can't judge a person on their sense of style. Everyone had his or her unique way of style. Magazines and Gossip magazines why do we need to know what other people are doing? Just like the Bill Clinton fiasco.

People just publicize them because they " re famous. If I have a drug or alcohol problem. Who would care? I am just a minor person in society.

Being a diverted self puts you in a position where you do not care about anything or anyone surrounded you. Being open, gives me the courage not to care as what a television, newspapers, or anything else has to say. In conclusion, Percy, Senna, and the mother in "Two Kinds" help develop a sense of category in you. They all help you realize how a person can have so many characteristics without you even not knowing.

Categories are put out there for people to fit in such situation. Characterizing yourself helps you understand yourself in a better way. Society and people will never change as a whole. Simply trying to make a difference to people and society is already hard. Categorizing and characterizing certain matters will be with us forever..
