Granny's Past Life example essay topic

520 words
I believe this short story is about Granny Weatherall's feelings and emotions during death. Its purpose is to stimulate intellect into the reader's mind about life and death. Many have experienced the feeling of dying grandparents; some may have been present during the last breath. The story's purpose is to bring her feelings and emotion to life. The essence for coping with life is what I grasped from this short story. Throughout the story, I asked myself a few questions.

First, what is the meaning and purpose of my life? I discovered that it is not important to "Major in Minor" things. In other words, don't sweat the small stuff. Life is much to short. Secondly, how do I cope with adversity and disappointment in my life?

I pray and ask God for guidance. I believe all is possible through God. Knowing God helps those whom help themselves, yet nothing would be possible without having him in my life. We can give it our all, but if it is not God's will for you to accomplish a given task, then you must learn to accept second best or disappoint. Odds are, you will be stronger than before. Thirdly, how do I survive and adjust to painful life experiences?

I know it could always be worse. I could be taking fire from an enemy during battle, or trying to save multiple lives without adequate supplies to sustain life. I could be held captive in a P.O. W camp in a foreign land for seven years. There are some people in this world who are experiencing these as you and I read and write during these few hours of class. I asked myself these questions while reading because Granny had a sense of immediacy in her thoughts, feelings, memories. She reviews her life remembering the important happenings, disappointments, crises and achievements.

Her character is vivid and rich in detail. She is a very hard worker. She worked as a farmer, doctor, and veterinarian, raising her children alone with courage. The most humiliating moment in the story is when she is left alone at the altar by George.

She will never forgive him because of the painful humiliation he has caused her. She still remembers the feelings on that day and now it consumes her every being. Many passages give insight to light and dark images. Images of the past are the good images (light) and current images in her mind are (dark). Granny's past life is clear, yet her current life is dark and unexplainable to her. Granny's most significant experiences are the past presently occupying her mind.

This story reminded me of life's importance. How you should live each and every new day as if it were your last. We should focus and pay mind to the gifts God has given us, for each day is a gift, that is why we call it the present.
