Run The Dorms Of Ave Maria College example essay topic
In the middle of the bed, there is a spring that pops out and bothers me whenever I lay on the bed. Because of the spring, I have to sleep on the side of the bed against the wall so I don't fall off the bed. The bed that I have is very hard to get used to. When I wake up in the morning, I can barely move my neck because the bed is so stiff. Sleeping in the beds of the dorms has been a nightmare for me; I have had a better sleep on a wooden floor than in this bed. I asked the room assistant for another bed, but he told me that all the beds were the same.
They are very hard and smell horribly. At 6: 00 in the morning while sleeping, I hear a noise from far away, which keeps getting louder and louder while I am resting. When the noise is too loud, I have to wake up. It is the lawn mower at 6: 00 in the morning cutting the grass. Fortunately, the land mower is just once a week. What really annoys me between 5: 30 and 6: 00 in the morning are the little birds that chirp as loud as they can for the momma bird to feed them.
It is just my luck that I have a tree beside my window in which the birds stay. The only thing I can do is grab my pillows and put them over my head so I can, at least, get some sleep until 7: 00 in the morning. There are even days that it is hard to get near the toilets. Every time that I have to go and do number two, I have to first search for a toilet that is not urinated or with pubic hair on top of the toilet seat.
After finding the most decent toilet, I grab some toilet paper and clean the toilet seat just in case the seat is dirty before I sit down. Regularly, the bathrooms in the dorms have a bad smell. The floors are all wet, because some boys cannot yet control their genitals to aim correctly and end up hitting the floor more than inside the toilet. There is also another problem for the people who sleep in the dorms. Whenever we go and watch television or study in the living room, we obviously have to use the couches to sit down. Unfortunately, the couches have a real bad odor, caused by the sweat of everyone who sits on them.
After a while sitting on the couch, all our clothes reek the odor of sweat and humidity. Most of the people who sleep in the dorms have complained about this problem to the room assistants. So far, they have done almost everything they can to eliminate the odor, but it still remains on the couches. The solution that students have suggested to the room assistants is to buy some new sofas for the living room and that way they would not have so many complaints from the students. Lately, in this semester, there have been pest problems, like cockroaches inside the dorms. If there is something that I cannot stand is an uninvited little guest that crawls out from toilets, sewers and some other sickening places that we cannot imagine.
Just its presence in the living room causes me an unsettled stomach. I have already found two dead cockroaches in my closet, meaning that they are multiplying. I expect that there are going to be more of these little walking diseases. Students have already informed the room assistants about fumigating the dorms because of the cockroaches that are living with us. Hopefully, I will not have these unpleasant guests in my "luxurious bedroom" very soon. Another big issue that the college of Ave Maria has is the cafeteria.
Many people have had some type of stomach disease from eating the food in the cafeteria. I remember that I got a stomach sickness by eating the food in the cafeteria. I went through two weeks of diarrhea; I remember that I had to wake up at 2: 00, at 3: 00 and at 4: 00 in the morning and run urgently to the bathroom and that was only the first two weeks of my first semester in the dorms. There have also been other people, who did not stay in the dorms, who ate the food from the cafeteria and had the same disease; some of these people have not yet recovered from it. Many students have complained about the food from the cafeteria, but no one listens to their complaints.
The only answer they have for us is that we obtained the disease from somewhere else. Another complaint that I have about the cafeteria is that they serve the same breakfast every morning. Everyone has gotten sick from the breakfast they serve every day. After a room assistant complained about the problem, the cook began to do new things like omelets, french toast, sandwiches; they even changed the cereals to Lucky Charm and Coco Puffs. But that only lasted a couple of weeks.
In conclusion, since I have paid a large amount of money to stay on campus, I expect to live in good and decent conditions, but I am very disappointed. The people who run the dorms of Ave Maria College should fix problems like these, if they want to keep students living on campus. They should also be concerned for our happiness and health, because we are the ones who give our opinions about the university and we are the ones who sleep on campus. This is supposed to be the best university in Nicaragua and all of Central America.
Ave Maria should act quickly to maintain its reputation. Most of my classmates who used to stay in the dorms, left because they were very disappointed by the rotten conditions..
