Search For Unity In Hidden Likenesses example essay topic
The Epicureans came to this conclusion two-thousand years ago. But not until two centuries ago that John Dalton was the first to see the structure of matter as seen today. John Delton used Chemistry with respect to the ancient theory together came to the conclusion that matter is linked and formed from different kinds of atoms. "All science is the search for unity in hidden likenesses" is another generalization made by Bronowski.
Searching for unity in the science world is more than a determination that scientists have, but also's desire to prove that unity is at the core of all matter. Take for instance the Japanese physicist Hideki Yukawa who noted that "Waves of lights can sometimes behave as if they were separate pellets". He also noted that the forces that hold the nucleus of an atom might be constituted of solid pellets as well. His conclusion from this study is to prove that likeness in matter exists which leads to unity. Once this pattern or comparison habits of objects develops it becomes somehow easier to predict the results and come to some sort of relative conclusions. For instance, Newton observed the apple falling from the tree.
After this observation, he asked himself about the forces behind it. These forces provoked the attraction of the apple through the earth ground. He assumed that there must be an outreaching force that goes beyond the tree and out beyond the earth atmosphere. Newton used this analysis of gravity and applied it to the moon by noting that that same force keeps the moon in orbit.
After comparing these two unlike objects he determined that the concept of gravitation still the same. This gravitation plays a big role in the unity of the universe. The two examples of definition of "asthma" were defined. Asthma was defined in two examples: one from "Taber's Cyclopedia Medical Dictionary" and one from "Essentials of Chinese Acupuncture". The first source reports that they are six types of asthma which are: Bronchial, cardiac, extrinsic, nonotapic and thymic.
The Chinese source defines two types of asthma Shi and Xu. Both examples explain the reaction of the human body when suffering from asthma, and gave different ways of treatment. The first one relies on modern medicine, whereas the other relies on more therapeutic measures such as acupuncture. In conclusion, after I compared the two examples I would define both as scientific. Traditional medicine built the foundation for modern one. Because of the continued improvement and technology advancement modern medicine got where it is today.
But even nowadays some of old therapeutic method like yoga is to remedy human distress. In the Editorial "Science and Black People" one of the objectives the editor emphasized on is: value-free enterprise of scientific thought and practice. It is a fact that the black society has been struggling for freedom and suffering from slavery for years. But, nowadays things have changed quite a bit for them. The new generation has to think ahead and shake out the old mentality about lack of opportunities such as education, and the blame put on others for their ignorance. In many cases, black people bring their past history into the present, which is discouraging and demoralizing.
Being in close society also is a factor to the pursuit of new opportunities. The education system is open to everyone in this country and black people have to unite and encourage each other to better arm themselves with books and knowledge.
