Astronomy 20 Essay: Comparison of Astronomy Videos The Scale of the Cosmos, The Infinite Frontiers, Tools of Astronomy, The Sun, and Heaven and Hell Reviewed by Bobby Babaknia and Astronomy 20 (2: 00-3: 30 M-W) The following video tapes contain interesting facts about the universe and how it came about. In Cosmos, the Greeks studied and analyzed the skies in their own way. They discovered that the moon is a quarter of the size of the earths mass. The Greeks also found out that Neptune has eight moons revolving around it. After the Greeks, the Astronomers observed the universe and how it works. They are the new scouts for an entire human race, whom watch over the skies for any asteroids, comets, or any unidentified objects.

In this video, I observed that the Greeks were true people to identify the universe and the stars. They are also very intelligent people that started the whole observation of the stars and what they mean. The Greeks have discovered many historical facts that have created many numeric systems, such as the calendar. After the Greeks, many other countries continue the constant change of the universe.

Observing the video Infinite Frontiers, I discovered that the Chinese constellations have a system to identify stars in the universe. Hipparchus, an observer, identified the stars by their brightness. The lower the number on a star, the brighter the star glows. The Sun is also known as a source of life and nature. Another great fact was discovered by the ancient Babylonians, which saw the sun as a god or a spirit. The Heel Stone, which was discovered by the Greeks, has the sun rising in the middle, during the summer season.

Following the Greeks, the Chinese observed the stars. The Stars helped navigate the Greeks and ran their calendar. The Greeks had a very interesting life and constructed the Heel Stone for their own purposes. Also the stars are very detailed, by the way that each of them have different brightness to help the observer identify each star. And the way the Greeks observed the stars, helped them live their life based on knowing what season was going to come, just by observing the sky's. The universe has many Tools, one of which is the telescope.

The universe is studied by electro magnetic radiation. Observatories are at the tops of mountains above the city for clarity. Also telescopes that are set on the ground level have reached a distance of ten meters. Adaptive optics makes an image more clearly from being blurry. A way to record the universe is with photographic plates that have been set. The universe is an incredible place that people have to observe at high elevation and is measured by photographic plates.

I also learned that the sky needs to be clear enough in order for an observer to have full viewing. Different types of telescopes view the universe in different ways due to the lens and zoom. Some telescopes view the universe at a distance of ten meters. Adaptive optics plays a large role in making an image clear and not blurry. What I found really amazing was that the universe is observed by using electro magnetic radiation, which brings information back to the earth. The Sun is another movie that explores how the sun works and rotates.

The Sun is the closest star to the Earth. From Earth, the Sun looks like a bright glowing disk of light. The Core of the Sun's temperature goes up to 10 million degrees Kelvin. As a matter of fact, Serendipitous discovered that frequencies split enables measurements of the sun.

When going into space, people view the short wavelengths. A bright star, the Sun, creates life to a planet called Earth. With its great source of heat and light, the Sun supplies every planet in a unique form. The Sun, to me is a planet and not a Star, due to its circular shape. But because of its light, mass, and contents; it can't be a planet. People go to the extreme when it comes to the universe, especially the Sun.

They travel as close as they can to measure what they need for their records and research. Viewing the Sun from the Earth, it looks like a huge bright light in a disk form. As a result to the brightness, a filtered lens looks at the Sun with great elements. In the final segment, the Heavens are described with great detail. In 1908, a comet hit the surface of the Earth. Comets were then observed through out the world.

Then in 1910, H alleys Comet arrived to the Earth for the second time. Comets eventually will erode in the universe, due to time and sun's temperature. When a comet hits the Earth's land surface, it creates a large crater. We don't know beforehand where fundamental insights will arise in our solar system. This segment I observed the universe's history.

I learned about Saturn and what its rings contain. Watching this segment also thought me how science is a self-correcting process, which science us on their daily routine. Scientist also hypothesizes the consistence of many planets, one of which is Venus. Venus is though to have swamps and water on its surface. Venus was also observed by a great man, Galileo in the 1600's. I also observed that asteroids were swept off the moon, in the making of the planets.

After viewing all these films, I learned that the universe is a very important tool to man kind. Astronomers play the role of god in some ways, by detecting change in the atmosphere. I also observed that over the years many observes help the feature of life form on Earth. The Sun is a great source to Earth due to its light and heat that allows Earth to have life. As a known fact, the Greeks played a great role in creating methods on how to read the stars and what they mean.

Over all, studying astronomy has been a great experience.
