Liberals like myself are the true lovers of America. We fight for the civil liberties granted us in the Constitution and equal treatment of all socioeconomic classes. Response: Civil liberties are essential, including the right to bear arms. All socioeconomic classes in this country have the same rights, I'm not sure what you are trying to imply by that. People in this country have freedom of association, if the Boy Scouts don't want to allow homosexuals to join their organization that is their Constitutional right. You only bring up the Constitution when it backs up the point you are trying to make, which shows a lack of respect for the document itself.

Liberals fight for human rights both domestically and internationally. We campaign to bring down the sweatshops while the conservatives laud sweatshops on the basis of "pragmatism". Response: Factories oversees are bringing jobs and better lives to people in those countries. It is true those workers work longer hours that people in the US and at lower wages but they do so voluntarily. In China workers leave agricultural areas and line up for hours to get jobs at new American factories.

Working at those factories allows them to properly feed and clothe their families for the first time. If you force our wage standards on other countries that would force factories out of those countries and create unemployment hurting the very people you are trying to help. Liberals fight for education reform and increased funding for our public schools. Our nation's public school system is now [under GOP control] among the worst in the free world, We demand that all students in this nation be given equal access to a public education system that ranks #1 in the world. We liberals will not rest until that goal is achieved. Response: Government control is the reason our public school system is so bad.

Even when more and more money has been given the public schools the improvements have been only minor. The answer is a nationwide voucher program which will bring competition and specialized schools to better serve students needs. Liberals fight for increased Medicare / Medicaid, Social Security, Welfare, and other GOVERNMENT aid programs that will lift the poor out of poverty and establish a sweeping middle-class. We will model our government on that of Sweden.

Response: The welfare programs instituted by Roosevelt and Johnson haven't solved the problem of poverty; instead they created a system where people stayed poor without any incentive to better their lives. The Social Security system is a failure and should be completely privatized. Instead of earning high rates of return on their money they are forced into a government system which will go bankrupt unless taxes are substantially raised or benefits are eliminated. People need freedom to decide how they want to spend their money. There is no need for people to risk their retirements in high risk stocks, there are plenty of money market accounts that have a guaranteed rate of return.

You should at least give people the option to "opt-out" of the current system and invest their money in private accounts, that system was successfully implemented in Chile. Sweden was in financial ruin in the 1980's until they scaled down all of their social welfare programs and reduced taxes. Liberals fight for a NATIONAL HEALTH CARE system so that sick and dying children, mothers, fathers and grandparents are not turned away from hospitals because their HMO will not pay for services or medication. Response: There are no successful National health care systems, all have created systems where people have to wait days and even months to receive even the most elementary care. In the name of helping poor many countries have destroyed health care for everyone. The wealthy in other countries travel to America to receive better quality care.

The answer is to eliminate many government regulations on health care systems and hospitals and allow the market to create systems specifically tailored to unique groups. Liberals fight for increased gun control laws and tracking measures. We will not rest until every Bedford-Stuyvesant in this nation is a safe and enjoyable place to live and children do not have to worry about being riddled with bullets. Response: The ability to bear arms is an essential right, guaranteed by our Constitution. Guns in the hands of citizens provides a defense against tyranny and foreign threats, enables people to protect themselves against criminals, and provides a way for the weak to protect themselves against the strong so we don't have survival of the fittest. Violent crime has gone up in all countries where massive gun control has been instituted.

Liberals support world peace and understanding amongst different nations, cultures and religions. Terrorist organizations cite Americans' ignorance, nationalism and ethnocentricity as their motive for violence. The solution to ending terrorism is understanding other cultures; not blowing innocent Iraqi and Afghani civilians to bits with aircraft fire. Response: America is one of the most diverse countries in the world.

We should simply leave other countries alone and let them choose their own economic and social policies. By imposing our view of government on our countries we have gotten a bad reputation. Countries will either realize that freedom and democracy are the answer or they will suffer. We had every justification to attack Afghanistan after the attacks on 9/11. We don't have to understand terrorism or the people engaging in it, we have to eliminate them accordance with United States law in order to protect our security. Liberals fight for increased government control of business in an effort to save our economy from corporate frauds like Enron Inc. and Arthur Andersen.

Response: The amount of corporate law breakers is tiny when compared to the number of corporations following the law to the letter. Instead of using business as a scapegoat for all of societies problems we need to eliminate most of the crippling business regulations that cost our economy 200 billion dollars a year and hinder economic growth. Government control of business will inevitably lead to stagnant economic growth and high unemployment. Liberals fight for EQUAL treatment of minority groups including gays, lesbians and bisexuals as well as fighting for a woman's right to abortion.
