History of The U.S. Military The history of the United States military is a very prestige, brave, heroic, and memorable one at that. Starting on September 3, 1793 the United States was officially it's own nation and it's own military. At that time many other countries didn't believe that we would succeed but, now we are one of the strongest, freest, and most prestige country to possible ever be developed. The technology that we had started off with just a simple musket that shot one bullet at an time and need to be reloaded after that. It also had a sharp sheer type of knife on the end for close or hand to hand combat. All the way to the most destructive weapon ever developed by the United States, the atom bomb.

The only time that atom bombs were dropped on civilian areas were Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan. The one dropped oh Hiroshima was named Little Man and, the one dropped on Nagasaki was named Fat Boy. The official death tool well never be none but the estimate is over 90,000-140,000 dead in Hiroshima alone. That is not including the people that died from the radiation after the dropping (web). This is the act that had ended world war II after Japan had surrendered on the USS Missouri (History of The U.S. Army). Although it is the most powerful weapon doesn't mean it is the most useful.

Sometimes "The bigger the boom the harder it hurts the thrower". as well put but Harry Truman who had initiated the dropping with out knowing what they even are. Alexander The development of the atom bomb was done in a government secret called the Manhattan Project. This project was the thinking of Albert Einstein who believed that if you get a research team together they could create a nuclear weapon. He had sent a letter in 1939 to Franklin Roosevelt that said he could do this project.

Three years later a physicist from Chicago, Enrico Fermi, had created a method to control a nuclear reaction. He had done this testing in a reactor called CP-1 (Chicago Pile 1) which he had stored at the University of Chicago under a squash court. After several months of failed experiments they had finally made a bomb to test. On July 6, 1945 they had tested this new bomb at Los Alamos.

Then one month later the 2 nuclear bombs were dropped on Japans Hiroshima and Nagasaki. One of the main reasons that Truman had initiated the dropping was because he be lived it would end the war. Once every one had realized that the Manhattan Project was a success the Soviet Union had begin to make there own form of a nuclear weapon. Thus the begin of the atomic arms race had started.

This had also started the beginning of the cold war as well. (web). In 1949 the cold war had started, China had turned communist, and the Soviet Union tested there first atom bomb. The testing of there atom bomb was one of the many reasons why this war had started. One of the other reasons was that communism was taking over the east and the nations of the U.N. were afraid that there allies or profits might be lost to communism. When China had became communist with as many people it has making a large workforce could spell trouble for the democracies. Communism was also flexing it's muscles in the Soviet Union after making sure the world knew that they Alexander also have the technology to make the atom bomb.

The factor of the possibilities of an atomic war was also scaring people from all sides. This had all ultimately led to the beginning of the Korean war (web war. html). After the surrender of the Japanese in World War II the Japanese were forced out of southern Korea. Then at that point the Soviet Union ran the northern half of Korea and the United States ran the southern half of Korea. Once World War II had come to an end President Harry Truman had decided to take most of the troops out of Korea. Then the Soviet Union decided to back North Korea in an invasion of Southern Korea and southern Korea wouldn't be able to protect it self with out the United states there to back them up.

Then on June 25, 1950 Northern Korea had decided to invade the Southern Koreans and, two days later Truman had sent American troops in that were stationed in Japan as well with American soldiers. Since South Korea is a democracy they got help from the United Nations by way of an international army from 16 countries while being led by the controversial General Douglas MacArthur. Since the Soviet Union was boycotting the United Nations for difference of opinions. By September of 1950 North Korea had taken much of Korea and then out of a big spurt MacArthur had chased the North Koreans to the China border.

Then the Chinese had accumulated over 300,000 soldiers and made the United Nation troops to withdraw back. They had sent the United Nations forces far enough back to get them to take over the capital of South Korea, Seoul. Then at this point the war became a battle against the Chinese and the Americans. Then by the end the Americans had only pushed the North Koreans slightly past the 38th parallel, the line that separated the north from the south.

Alexander Although the Korean war is known as the forgotten war, the soldiers never forgot about it (web). The reason that the Vietnam War had gotten started is because France wanted get the independence of the area that they have acquired. The most famous was the fight for Vietnam. The reason that France did not want Vietnam to get their independence is because they had many natural resources that were very profitable. Some of the natural resources were iron mines, coal mines, rubber plantation, and gigantic rice fields. The Vietnam war was starting to become a burden to the French citizens.

After the Ho Chi Minh victory over the French, the United States took this as a threat of communism taking over the rest of Asia. At the Geneva convention the United States attempted to lessen the communist influence in Vietnam but, this attempt was unsuccessful. So the United Sates was given no other option but to greaten the U.S. influence in Vietnam. Although the U.S. had the more technology to use, the people of Vietnam had the upper hand at times. By the use of guerilla tactics, they had the ability to out maneuver the United States troops. These tactics made the United States rely on air attacks.

By the pressure of the American citizens, President Nixon was forced to withdraw his troops from Vietnam. Then just 6 years later Northern Vietnam had completely taken over Vietnam (http//members. aol. com / sniper 43/Vietnam. html). Although that the United States leaders have made bad decisions it has always turned out for the better.
